AREAS OF RESEARCH
Dr. Crowell's primary research interests are in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of lung cancer, particularly in identification, development, and testing of biomarkers for lung carcinogenesis and in developing other measures of lung cancer risk, such as individual lung cancer susceptibility. The long-term goal of these interests is to assess disease risk, improve early detection, evaluate the efficacy of interventions designed to disrupt carcinogenesis, and prognostication. As one of a group of collaborating scientists from LRRI, UNM, and the Albuquerque VA Medical Center, Dr. Crowell is currently investigating molecular markers of respiratory carcinogenesis in bronchial epithelial cells collected during bronchoscopy and within expectorated sputum. He is also interested in novel methods for diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of lung cancer.
