AREAS OF RESEARCH
Presently studying the immune response in mice to cell wall components and lipids isolated from mycobacteria to characterize the types of granulomatous reactions occurring in TB and correlate those to stages of infection.
Previous research at UNM involved the study of the structure and function of the abundant proteolipid protein in CNS myelin and its role in myelin integrity. A second project involved characterization of an echinoderm protein, tensilin, which controlled tensile behavior of connective tissue. Cloning and identification of the gene coding for tensilin helped to suggest the mechanism of action of the protein controlling the behavior of this tissue.
