AREAS OF RESEARCH
Dr. Benson's areas of research include toxicological evaluations of single compounds and complex mixtures of occupational and environmental concern. A major research focus involves evaluation of potential adverse health effects resulting from inhalation or ingestion of marine and fresh water algal toxins. Her laboratory is also currently conducting bioassays evaluating the carcinogenicity of gasoline fuel vapors. Dr. Benson has had extensive experience in the conduct of inhalation studies, including toxicokinetic and mechanistic evaluations of a variety of materials such as metals, solvents, and polymers.
